SOUTHERN DISCOVERIES – (was Milford Sound Red Boats)
Milford Discovery Centre
$300,000 refurbishment and structural redevelopment
29 panels, with information including; Milford Track, Homer Tunnel, Maori history & early European Settlers. Milford Deep underwater observatory has also been upgraded including design changes to enhance customer’s descent 10m underwater.
Sinbad Sanctuary Project
Southern Discoveries is passionate about preserving New Zealand’s most photographed mountain (Sinbad Gully at the base of Mitre Peak) and help it to become a sanctuary for native species.
Kayaking – Soft Adventure
‘Southern Discoveries’ have applied to operate a kayak operation in Milford Sound in conjunction with the new Discovery Centre. The new single-storey kayak facility would sit right alongside the Observatory, joined by an elevated walkway and sitting on a new pontoon which would replace an existing structure.
A maximum of 15 passengers would be taken on up to four trips a day, which would include a Boat Cruise in Milford Sound (2hours), a visit to the Underwater Observatory, and a one-and-a-half hour guided kayak trip within the shelter of Harrison’s Cove.

Horse Treks
A fantastic way to experience a 700 acre working deer, sheep and cattle farm on a scenic trek with wonderful views out along the mountains and Fiordland’s Upukerora River. Experience the different landscapes that form our beautiful farmland and trek over a wide variety of terrain from farmland to swamps, with river crossings beside native beech forest. We cater for all levels of ability in small groups led by experienced guides.
• Duration 3.5 hours inc light refreshments departs at 9am and 4pm. Min age 10yrs unless experienced.

• Duration 2 hours departs at 1pm. Min age 6 years.

Quad Bike Tours
An exhilarating and challenging guided trip that’s fun for everyone. Caters for all skill levels as we explore Te Anau’s rugged back blocks with breathtaking views over Lake Te Anau and the surrounding farmland. Drive over the same terrain where parts of Lord of the Rings were filmed before looping back round through the scrub, bush, creeks and lakes that form our picturesque
landscapes.
• Duration 3.5 hours inc wet weather and safety gear, light refreshments and departs at 9am and 4pm.
Min age 16 yrs unless experienced then min age 14 yrs.
